Tuesday

It's Tuesday...so it's back to work.

Actually, I had forgotten that yesterday was a holiday and had scheduled an appointment for work anyhow...so I wasn't even technically off of work yesterday.

I got an e-mail yesterday encouraging me to spread awareness of a letter in a certain gay publication that was written to the attention of Ellen Degeneres. Apparently Ellen hasn't donated money to the effort to defeat Proposition 8 in California. I think I'm willing to give her a pass. Ellen has lived her life out there and fought the fight on our behalf for quite a few years. No one can say that she hasn't given enough or fought enough for equal rights. By going on her show everyday and showing mainstream America that she is good at what she does...she helps us all.

More importantly, as someone who doesn't live in California and can't marry his partner...I sort of resent the glee and fanfare that so many California gays have embraced their new found ability to marry with. I sort of feel that when they won the battle in California...they forgot that there was still a war for equality nationwide....and now that the battle may be turning against them...they want OUR help to fight. I would have respected so many people like Ellen Degeneres and George Takei more if they'd said "I'm not getting married until EVERYONE in the United States can get married..."

I realize that it isn't right of me to be resentful...and I realize that we've got to win the battles before we win the war. And ultimately, I am happy for all of them. I guess it is a little bit of jealousy on my part.

In more trivial news, I'm still enjoying the hell out of HBO's new-ish series True Blood. It's been ages since there was a show that I felt compelled to watch every week.

I'm also gearing up for the launch of Battlestar Galactica's final half of the final season in January. There is no doubt in my mind that this show fundamentally suffered due to the convoluted and protracted scheduling that took place throughout it's run. I understand that there are economics and financial concerns at play when Sci-Fi Channel splits shows into halves and spreads them out over the course of two years...but it makes it difficult for audiences and fans to stay engaged. More importantly...it makes it difficult for spoilers and leaks to be kept under wraps. (*cough* Aaron Douglas is a douche bag *cough*)

Anyhow...it's almost 8 a.m....so I need to go shower and get on the day.

Happy new Year to you.

Even though we never really participate to polls, we just didn't want to let this one pass. We believe we have had some pretty amazing articles through the year of 2008 on BeautifulMag, thanks to the participation of many talented artists. I think for us there are two things that e really stand out, which is the Beautiful SEX week in October, but this probably doesn't count, since it was a multitude of articles. But hot they were - ha ha ha

The other is most definitely The Prophecy. You might remember BeautifulMag joined forces with Aymeric Giraudel during the better part of the second half of 2007 to create a piece af art as never done before. The Prophecy, a larger then life fresco, featuring many models, including the famous Nick Beyeler, featured in a specilly dedicated wek on BeautifulMag from January 21 to 26, with teaser banners and video already published before, and a focus on the publication of each of the three parts of this piece on jan 23/24 and 25, free donloadable for everybody in high resolution.

Now, one year later, we can say that this venture has been a huge international success, both for Aymeric Giraudel as for BeautifulMag. The composition has been, and still is, exposed in several musea all around the world, and the whole project and cooperation has had much international media attention.

That Guy!
Crazy Sam's Bloginess: That Guy!This one is my lame attempt in writing fiction. I seldom dare to write fictions because they demand lots of imagination. The plot for this story popped in my head when I was watching a Hindi movie called Gangster. There is a scene where Emraan Hashmi sings looking at Kangana Ranaut in a pub, which led me into thinking - wouldn't it be nice if a guy did that to me? Then I thought, "Yeah right! He might be actually singing looking at his girlfriend who is behind me." Then it snapped! This idea could really work for a story. Although I changed the situations for the embarrassment, the essence of the plot remained the same - the protagonist being mislead to develop false hopes, in the end leading to a heartbreak. I also injected into the storyline, my fear of rejection when I finally come out to parents. You might also feel that I was describing that gorgeous hunk with Nick Beyler in mind. Anyways, I hope I can give a second part for this one.

Gays And Mothers
Crazy Sam's Bloginess: Gays And MothersI don't know whether my mother can sense that I'm gay, but its a popular opinion (or a myth?) that a mother can know if her son or daughter is gay. In this article, I highlight about how a friend's mother saved him from his ex-boyfriend's threats, Whippy's very first coming out experience to his mother, how I was giving mixed signals to my mother even though they were unintentional, a heartening letter I got as a result of a discussion happened in a gay forum, and Nishit Sharan's documentary in which he filmed his coming out to his mother.
Recently one of my friends, who is from Mexico had to come out to his mother because his ex-boyfriend threatened him that unless he got back together with him, he would let my friend's mother know about her son's sexual preference. Even though he wasn't planning of doing it in the near future, but in order to take away the power from his ex-boyfriend of hurting him and his family, he came out to his mother. But this turned out to be a blessing in disguise instead. She accepted the truth and told him if that’s the way he chose to live his life, and if he was happy, then she didn't have anything to say about it. She also said to him that he needn't worry about his ex-boyfriend contacting her because she just wouldn't let him get to her.

And after reading RambWS's come out (his very first!) to his mother, I thought I could share here some experiences that happened with my mother.

One time my mother was talking to me and a folder suddenly popped open and there she sees all the scantly dressed men in all their erotic poses!! Eeeks! I don't know how she felt about me. And there was another time when she caught me watching a straight porn. I was watching a guy banging a gal and I was so immersed in appreciating the beauty of the act that I didn't hear the sound of the door opening. And then I heard her voice, "What are you watching?" I closed everything and looked at her. She was smiling. Again I don't know what she thought about me. May be I am now giving her mixed signals.

Then another time, when I and my mother were watching T.V. I was just flipping through the channels and suddenly I stopped, seeing a news report about gays in India. I wanted to watch, but knowing that my mother was also in the same room, I changed to the next channel. (I used to watch Will & Grace with my mother, though.) Later I posted this experience to a gay forum and among the many responses I got, this was the outstanding one:

Hi. I am unable to post on the forums but I saw your thread about coming out in India. I am Indian and came out to my parents almost 14 years ago. First to my mom and then she told my dad. Trust me, it was no big deal. If your parents truly care and love you - then they will not even care if you are gay. Mine cared about me ending up alone, but that's about it. I'm even out to my grandparents and all my cousins, aunts and uncles. Yes sometimes people pass a comment or so, but be secure with yourself and everything will be fine. Also remember one thing. Parents have a special bond with their kids. So if you are thinking your mom already doesn't know, then you are wrong. She does know you are gay. All mothers do. It's nothing you can change, nor can your parents change it about you. So next time you are caught in an awkward situation with your mom watching gay stuff on the T.V, then how about smiling away and asking your mom right there, "What do you think about this?" See how she reacts. Maybe she encourages it and that would make it a lot easier for you to come out. There is nothing to be ashamed of in front of your parents. If you are gay and you know it, then it's a big part of your life that your parents deserve to know of as well. By not telling them - you are just lying and keeping them in the dark, giving them false hopes for your future. I am not pushing you to come out - it's totally up to you - but put signals out and see how they react before you take the big step of coming out completely. Good luck.

Amazing, right? It's heartening to know some Indian parents are accepting homosexuality even though there is lot of homophobia and misconception about gays.

Summer In My Veins (1999) is a short documentary film in which Nishit Sharan, a gay Indian who was studying film-making in Harvard, films himself coming out to his mother. The documentary also deals with his anxiety of having slept with a guy who was infected with HIV.

And so started the tedious affair of choosing fastest file-hosters to stream songs, finding light-weight and aesthetic audio players, updating my music blog (which was closed down later when CSB Random Video became functional) to link video files from here and placing the whole stuff without appearing as total chaos. The entire process was painfully strenuous and taking a hell lot of time that I even thought of dropping the idea. But when the post finally got published, the comments it received made me realize it was well worth the effort.

1 Year Of... Bloginess
Crazy Sam's Bloginess: 1 Year Of... BloginessThis post marked the one year anniversary of Crazy Sam's Bloginess. I wanted to present something special, not just a post announcing the occasion. I thought why not make my music blog merge with this one and add a feature that can show random videos on each page load. The idea seemed fantastic, but how do I implement this feature? I announced my requirement at the Dynamic Drive forums. I soon got response from Raymond Angana that he has coded a similar widget and with slight modification to the code I would be able to get what I wanted. I checked his code, made the necessary alterations and voila! The CSB Random Video was ready. But the blog template CSB had that time wasn't suited for this. Therefore that required a long exhaustive search for blogger templates. Finally the one coded by Amanda Fazani seemed good. I began to tweak it according to my needs mainly concentrating on styling, colour scheme, CSB banner and ads, fonts and columns. With the help of BLiZZaRD, I then successfully installed the CSB Random Video. In the meantime I contacted the flash expert, Brian Wiltshire to code me a countdown widget which he readily agreed. I was also able to come up with a fabulous CSB cover featuring none other than Nick Beyler to glorify the occasion. Thus with the help of these great techies, CSB saw it's one year anniversary post on September 12th.

The Eye of the Ego

Next Friday, September 5, 2008, I will have my first photo exhibition, THE EYE OF THE EGO, at the Romaine Brooks Gallery, as part of Albany’s 1st Friday Events.

It’s special in a number of ways. First and foremost, it’s my very first solo show. Second, (and fittingly so), it’s the 2nd anniversary of 1st Friday Albany. Third, it marks my first official event as manager of the Romaine Brooks Gallery. Any one of these things is reason enough for the ballyhoo and hoopla - the fact that they’re coming together for this one amazing month is an almost-perfect alignment of stars.

I will hang the show this weekend. After viewing it in its entirety and finally deciding on the sequencing and order, it turned out to have an unexpected aspect of melancholy to it, which is actually rather appropriate if you know me in the least.

At some point it evolved into something much more meaningful than I ever intended, taking its own twists and turns and becoming its own wondrous entity without me having a direct hand in it. The Eye took over my own Ego, overturned it, and transformed what I originally thought was beautiful (myself and my own self-study) into the grotesque, and what I first thought to be filler (a few nature shots and still-lifes) into the real beauty. That may be the most exciting part of creating a show, and I’m grateful to have had this opportunity. (I’m also looking forward to the relief that will come when I get to hand off the opportunity to other artists when this month comes to a close.)

I have been getting so many requests to post my FSF photos that I've decided to jump my chronological postings and just get straight to it. I know you want it just as bad as I had it. Firstly, the fair was amazing. The highlight of my trip! I'm not usually one for street parties, but this gathering was incredible. The weather was perfect, the men were perfect and the atmosphere was perfect. I feel so honoured to have been a part of making this day so special, because without the energy of the people, it would be nothing. It is days like this that remind me how lucky I am to be gay. Everything you ever wanted to know about kilts but where to lazy to open an encyclopedia.

The kilt is a knee-length garment with pleats at the rear, originating in the traditional dress of men and boys in the Scottish Highlands of the 16th century. Since the 19th century it has been associated with the wider culture of Scotland in general, or with Celtic (and more specifically Gaelic) heritage elsewhere. It is most often made of woollen cloth in a tartan pattern.

According to the OED, the noun derives from a verb to kilt, originally meaning "to gird up; to tuck up (the skirts) round the body", itself of Scandinavian origin.

The Scottish kilt displays uniqueness of design, construction, and convention which differentiate it from other garments fitting the general description. It is a tailored garment that is wrapped around the wearer's body at the natural waist (between the lowest rib and the hip) starting from one side (usually the wearer's left), around the front and back and across the front again to the opposite side. The fastenings consist of straps and buckles on both ends, the strap on the inside end usually passing through a slit in the waistband to be buckled on the outside; alternatively it may remain inside the waistband and be buckled inside.

The kilt covers the body from the waist down to just above the knees. The overlapping layers in front are called "aprons" and are flat; the single layer of fabric around the sides and back is pleated. A kilt pin is fastened to the front apron on the free corner (but is not passed through the layer below). Underwear may or may not be worn, as the wearer prefers but in some circumstances underwear is prohibited by military regulations.

Organizations that sanction and grade the competitions in Highland dancing and bagpiping all have rules governing acceptable attire for the competitors. These rules specify that the kilt is to be worn (except that in the national dances, the female competitors will be wearing the Aboyne dress).

The history of the kilt stretches back to at least late 16th century Scotland. However, the nationalism of that tradition is relatively recent. It was only with the Romantic Revival of the early 19th century that the highland kilt was adopted by Lowlanders and the Scottish Diaspora as a symbol of national identity. People from other countries with Celtic connections, some Irish, Cornish, Welsh and Manx, have also adopted tartan kilts in recent times, although to a lesser degree.

The kilt first appeared as the great kilt, a full length garment whose upper half could be worn as a cloak draped over the shoulder, or brought up over head as a cloak. The small kilt or walking kilt (similar to the 'modern' kilt) did not develop until the late 17th or early 18th century, and is essentially the bottom half of the great kilt.

A modern kilt for a typical adult uses about 6–8 yards of single-width (about 26–30 inches) or about 3–4 yards of double-width (about 54–60 inches) tartan fabric. Double width fabric is woven so that the pattern exactly matches on the selvage. The kilt is usually made without a hem because a hem would make the garment too bulky and cause it to hang incorrectly. The exact amount of fabric needed depends upon several factors including the size of the sett, the number of pleats put into the garment, and the size of the person. For a full kilt, 8 yards of fabric would be used regardless of size and the number of pleats and depth of pleat would be adjusted according to their size. For a very large waist, it may be necessary to use 9 yards of cloth.

One of the most distinctive features of the authentic Scots kilt is the tartan pattern, or sett, it exhibits. The association of particular patterns with individual clans and families can be traced back perhaps one or two centuries. It was only in the Victorian era (19th century) that the system of named tartans we know today began to be systematically recorded and formalized, mostly by weaving companies for mercantile purposes. Up until this point, highland tartans held regional associations rather than being identified with any particular clan. Today there are also tartans for districts, counties, societies and corporations. There are also setts for States and Provinces, schools and universities, sporting activities, individuals, and commemorative and simple generic patterns that anybody can wear. Today most Scotsmen regard the kilt as formal dress or ceremonial national dress. Although there are still a few people who wear the kilt daily, it is generally owned or hired to be worn at weddings or other formal occasions, much the same way as top hat and tails are in England or tuxedos in America, and may be worn by anyone regardless of nationality or descent. For formal wear, the kilt is usually worn with a Prince Charlie or an Argyll jacket. (Commercial suppliers have now produced equivalent jackets with Irish and Welsh themed styling.)

The kilt is also used for parades by groups such as the Scouts, and in many places the kilt is seen in force at Highland games and pipe band championships as well as being worn at Scottish country dances and ceilidhs.

Certain regiments/units of the British Army and armies of other Commonwealth nations (including Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand and South Africa) still continue to wear the kilt as part of dress or duty uniform, though they have not been used in combat since 1940. Uniforms in which the kilt is worn include Ceremonial Dress, Service Dress, and Barracks Dress. The kilt is considered appropriate for ceremonial parades, office duties, less formal parades, walking out, mess dinners, and classroom instruction/band practice. Ceremonial kilts have also been developed for the U.S. Marine Corps, and the pipe and drum bands of the U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Air Force.

In recent years, the kilt has also become increasingly common in Scotland and around the world for casual wear, for example with the Jacobite shirt. It is not uncommon to see the kilt worn at Irish pubs in the US, and it is becoming somewhat less rare to see them in the workplace. Casual use of the kilt dressed down with lace-up boots or moccasins, and with tee shirts or golf shirts, is becoming increasingly more familiar at Highland Games. The kilt is associated with a sense of Scottish national pride and will often be seen being worn, along with a football top, when members of the Tartan Army are watching a football or rugby match.
Contemporary kilts (also known as modern kilts) have appeared in the clothing marketplace in Scotland, the USA and Canada in a range of fabrics, including leather, denim, corduroy, and cotton. They may be designed for formal or casual dress, for use in sports or outdoor recreation, or as white or blue collar workwear. Some are closely modelled on traditional Scottish kilts, but others are similar only in being knee-length skirts for men. They may have box pleats, symmetrical knife pleats, or no pleats at all, and be fastened by studs or velcro instead of buckles. Many are designed to be worn without a sporran, and may have pockets or tool belts attached.

Alla presentazione della proposta, il Vaticano ha immediatamente fatto sentire la sua voce contraria alla realizzazione della legge stessa visto che questo porterebbe disagio a quei paesi che non danno l'opportunità ai propri cittadini di legalizzare matrimoni tra persone dello stesso sesso. Insomma per il Vaticano evitare di far sorgere eventuali proteste riguardo l'attuazione di diritti civili che dovrebbero in ogni caso spettare ad ogni singolo cittadino del pianeta, è più importante rispetto alla salvezza di vite umane sacrificate a causa di leggi e tradizioni di culture retrograde ed omofobe. ORGULLO GAY MADRID 2008

El otro día, dije en un post que pasaba de puntillas por el blog y no tenía en mente postear con la frecuencia de antaño, pero depués de haber vivido un Orgullo más, creo que es justo compartirlo con vosotros, pues me consta que algunos no habéis podido estar este año, así que aquí os dejo mi pequeño reportaje... Como bien sabéis este año, el eslogan era por la visibilidad lésbica, que ya tocaba también... y si es cierto que se ha notado!

Pregón Orgullo 2008, miércoles 2, plaza de Chueca (Madrid)

At some point we all lie. In these modern times, in an age of Internet dating, socializing and hooking up, it frequently requires some shading of the truth. The fact is, the New Internet Etiquette is both a blessing and a curse. Never before has the ability to make friends, make love and find sex been accomplished quicker. The most successful gay websites have this potential interaction. The downside is: romance is dead. There is little mystery left in the pursuit of sex, or love. We are now permitted to be as explicit and demanding as we like. It's called shopping. We shop for sex and love. Many people have a list of their needs. It's important to grasp at the subtext: people are sending messages about their shopping list. There is a lexicon for this and it is to be found in words like "chill", "discreet" "NSA", and even the suspicious "bi". Chill, for example means that you are likely young seeking young. Old men don't chill. It's a way of suggesting that we get together without intent, with that distinct but lazy possibility of having sex. Discreet is always a danger sign: This person is likely in the closet or cheating on his lover. They are afraid of something. No one has a explanation why anyone would feel the need to tell the world they are bisexual other than it looks good on paper (or screen), hints at a liberal view of sexuality, and holds a certain allure to many homosexuals. Is it any wonder people are finding ways around the truth when the demands are so stringent? Here's an example pulled from a typical Craigslist ad: You you should be SMOOTH and THIN/ SKINNY or AVG BUILT or MUSCULAR 20-30. What if you are 32, have a slight fat deposit around the middle and a little tuff of hair on your chest? Should you answer this ad? Absolutely! But be prepared to fib, a little. Remember, horny people are usually willing to set aside some of their demands when the moment comes. The fact is, you can't always get what you want, but you can indeed, get what you need.

PHOTOSHOPPING THE TRUTH
Age is certainly the greatest fib ever told on the Internet. Men, especially older gay men lie constantly: they have to. At some point in the sexual life of everyone, they begin to lose their appeal. Age happens. For most men, it’s a slow unraveling: Hairlines recede, laugh lines remain after the laughter, and gravity, that invisible sledgehammer of physics keeps pushing us closer and closer to the Earth and we simply get wider and wider.
Luckily, Adobe invented Photoshop, to combat all the forces of nature. With Photoshop, we can smooth lines, frowns and inches. We can create hair where it should be, and it’s far less expensive. So as images are jettisoned across the vast universe of desire and longing, anyone with some graphic skill can artfully correct the intrusions of age. It’s all-good when innocently bantering with the truth in a situation where a physical appearance is not required. But, what about when it is? What if you actually set up a meeting and you have to show up, as you really are? Your guest may gasp as they ask themselves quietly, “Who is this person, not like the one in the picture they sent me?” It is always best to resort to reasonable explanations: I had such a busy week, I’m so tired. I photograph much younger than I look, or the proverbial favorite, it was the lighting. Remember, horny people are usually forgiving.
The same can be said about the purely sexual encounter, where because of the new sexual etiquette, we can now ask, what we always wanted to ask: how big? People have a tendency to round out the numbers, so a 6½" becomes a 7 incher. These are called Internet inches. No one really believes anyone is going to pull out a measuring tape during sex, so the missing ½ inch is likely to be overlooked as a detail. Again, Photoshop, in the initial Internet introduction can be skillfully used to add dimension and length to any image (it's the clone stamp). The first rule of fibbing on the Internet is be reasonable. Don’t add three inches—that will certainly be noted, measuring tape or not! The same can be said about fibbing about one’s age, be reasonable. If you're 55, don’t suggest that your 35, even if your best friends and Mom tell you how good you look for your age. Keep it in within the range of reality. A good rule is never over ten years younger. All the cosmetic surgery, the jars of Olay, exercise and make-up cannot take you back to an age where they played an entirely different soundtrack to the culture. But, lets get back to the penis. You have suggested and sent an image that is not quite anatomically correct. Now what? The rule here is don’t lie over an inch. It will be noticed. There is a difference between five inches and six, look at a ruler. No one (some aggressive size-queens are the exception) is going to toss you out of the bedroom because you added a little length and girth. The fact is, quite often both people realize they both have fibbed about it and so begins the beginning of a wonderful relationship.

Gay Relationships: Getting What You Want In Bed

He knows all our hot spots. Maybe he even shows us some nerve endings we didn’t know we had. He knows just what to do. It’s as if he can read our mind.

“OW! Watch the teeth, okay?” In everyday reality, we find ourselves in bed with someone who can’t read our mind and who doesn’t know where our hot buttons are unless we tell him. He makes missteps – just like we do. If we’re lucky he’s enthusiastic and attentive. Sometimes were not so lucky. If getting your erotic needs met feels like going to a pot-luck dinner – you take what you get; maybe it will be better next time – it’s time to learn new ways of communicating your desires with your partner....

Talking about sex can seem…unsexy. If we embarrass easily or if we don’t really know just what we want, the whole topic can make us anxious. We worry about sounding stupid or demanding. Worst of all, we worry that talking about sex will spoil the mood. Instead of getting what we want, we may not get anything at all.

Some conversations are easiest to have away from the bedroom and well before you and the object of your affection are naked. “I always talk about safer sex stuff before we get to my place,” Joe says. “It’s easier to ask about how he feels about condoms over dinner than when we’re between the sheets.” Joe’s other tip: he lowers his voice, looks his partner in the eye and tells him how much he wants to ride his partner’s dick all night long – if they can wrap that rascal first. Who could resist an invitation like that?

It’s easier to talk about problems outside the bedroom. “I would really like us to take it slower” is easy to hear over a glass of chardonnay at dinner. “Hey, slow down!” in an irritated voice when you’re getting pounded in bed is more likely to bruise your guy’s feelings. No one wants to feel like a klutz in bed.

Feelings are easy to bruise, especially around sex. Be kind rather than accusatory. See if you can frame requests in a way that is positive. “You know what would drive me crazy? I’d love for you to…” Try to make only one request at a time. If you bombard your partner with suggestions he may feel you are telling him he’s sexually incompetent. No one wants to hear that. Instead, be encouraging. Give him compliments if they are sincere. Sit close; maybe touch him gently and reassuringly.

And when you are getting it on and you get what you want, let him know it. Tell him “Yeah, that’s it!” or moan and sigh, move around, smile. Psychologists like to say when a certain behavior is rewarded, it happens more often. Compliment your partner often (without going overboard). Catch him doing something right, and let him know you love it. Building up his erotic self-confidence is good for you, too. This is one time when it can be very good manners to talk with your mouth full!

Take responsibility for your desires. Make “I” statements rather than “You” statements. There is a big difference between “I’d love you to get more forceful with me” and “You aren’t aggressive enough.”

Almost every man has had the experience of losing an erection during lovemaking. This is not fun. It can be pretty embarrassing. Talking about it is difficult, but discussing your concerns with your partner can be the path to resolving the issue. “I decided I shouldn’t be having sex with anyone if I was afraid to lose an erection with him,” Jorge says. “If I couldn’t feel secure enough for that, I was putting to much performance pressure on myself.” Letting his partners know that his body was sometimes slow to respond even if he was really enjoying himself helped him relax and be less distracted.

Ever heard the advice that to be considered a good conversationalist, you really need to be a good listener? It’s the same with sex. Often we give someone what we hope he’ll give us. We like having our nipples played with, so we play with his – even though it seems to annoy him. This isn’t likely to get you what you want, and it’s also not the way to be the most skilled lover around. You would be much better off telling him what you want and touching him the way he wants to be touched.

Ah, touch. There are so many ways to make physical contact with someone. Touching or being touched in exactly the same manner all the time can become irritating. Enough of exactly the same touch and our brains shut down – you will stop feeling the touch altogether. This is not pleasant. Better to vary how you make physical contact, alternating light touch with firmer, fingernail scratches with holding, teasing with squeezing.

If you are going to try to get more of what you want, it’s only fair that you give your partner more of what he wants, too. Ask him about particular turn-ons or fantasies. What gets him going? What turns him off? Don’t be defensive. You might even see if you can be sexy or playful when you initiate this conversation. You are telling him that he’s important and you want to give him pleasure. This is can be very different from a clichéd what-are-you-into conversation.

Don’t be afraid. Speak up. You will be imperfect and make mistakes. So what? Taking the initiative is masculine and sexy, and makes it much more likely that you will get what you want and deserve.

It never really occurred to me that that could be misinterpreted as a bad thing or as selling out. I couldn’t care less, and I don’t think it makes one lick of difference. But I hired my publicist for her professional opinion, and she seems to think it’s a mistake. I have no problem taking my shirt off for a role if the part calls for it, but my publicist says, 'When you’re promoting yourself, being you, there’s a way to keep it as classy as possible. Greasing yourself up and stripping down may not be the best way to do it.' To some degree, she may have a point. But at the end of the day, it didn’t bother me then and it doesn’t bother me now."

Evans also confirms his brother is gay:

"Yes, I do have a gay brother. I’m down with the gays. Mostly I’m hanging out with him and his gay buddies, who are fucking hilarious. They’re the funniest people I know. They’ve invited me out to gay bars before, and I said, 'Look, guys, I’ve got to draw the line there.' That’s where a photo will get taken, it will run in magazines, and before you know it, I’ll be living down the gay rumor for the rest of my life. [My brother looks like me], but he’s about an inch taller and about four shades tanner than I am. He’s a very fit young man. Believe me, he does quite well for himself."

Many anti-gay businesses and their owners or top managers will gladly take (fleece) Gay Dollars. They may offer a product or service that looks friendly, fun or enticing to the GLBT community. But they use their profits to turn on you and stab you in the back by supporting anti-gay causes or to deny equal benefits.
This list is meant to educate the public so consumers can make informed choices. Some of these choices one makes might include the following: take your business elsewhere; boycott or pick the business; write or email the company to inform them why they have lost your business; educate your friends and families about the company. Eventually corporate leaders and businesses will learn that anti-gay bigotry is bad for business.

A-1 Self Storage Company: Terry Caster is the owner. It is a family (third generation) run company. They have over 40 locations in California. The Californians Against Hate blog reports: “Mr. Caster and his family have contributed $693,000 to the Protect Marriage campaign. That makes the Casters the 2nd largest individual donors to Yes on Prop 8.” [GuyDads]

Brown-Forman Corp. Cinemark: Alan Stock, Cinemark’s CEO, gave $9,999 to the "Yes on 8" (Protectmarriage.com) campaign. Cinemark has 2700 movie screens in North and South America. In northern California they mainly operate under Century, CinéArts and Cinedome name. [GuyDads]

Domino’s Pizza: While Domino’s does not directly contribute to anti-gay activity, founder Tom Monaghan has contributed heavily to initiatives and organizations that oppose the rights of GLBTs. He is a co-founder of the Thomas More Law Center, which is advocating in court to restrict access to domestic partner benefits, and in 2001 financed a ballot proposal in Ypsilanti, MI to remove sexual orientation from that city’s non-discrimination ordinance. David Brandon, the current CEO, also opposes gay marriage.

ExxonMobil: Eliminated domestic-partner benefits for same-sex partners when the two companies merged in 1999. It is the largest Fortune 500 company that does not offer domestic-partner benefits. It also refuses to ban discrimination based on orientation and gender identity. [HRC buyers guide]

Golfland Entertainment Centers: The Kenneys, the family that owns and runs this business, were big donors to the “Yes on H8”. Together they contributed over $35,000 to take rights away from gays, lesbians and their families. They run a chain of family fun centers in California and Arizona. [GuyDads]

Insure.com (online insurance quote-comparison portal): The Company is a major sponsor of Bill O’Reilly’s radio talk show and Bill gives voice to their commercial. In addition to selling insurance, they provide information about the insurance industry. In an article on the business website entitled “Top five ways to kill yourself and get away with it”, They lists the number one way to kill yourself: “1. Being gay.”

Manchester Grand Resorts: Doug Manchester, owner of San Diego’s Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel and Grand del Mar Resort gave $125,000 to Yes on Prop 8 campaign. [boycottmanchesterhotels.com]

OutsidePride.com: Sounds like gay banner website but, in fact, is an on-line seed and lawn care retailer. Troy Hake, the president of Outside Pride, sent a homophobic manifesto to the participants of his company's email list, trying to rally them in a full-on campaign against "the whole CBS homosexual cartel". He says he is not a bigot but is tired of homosexuals rewriting history. [The Consumerist]

RockStar Energy Drink: Rock Star is a family business. Russell Weiner, CEO of Rock Star, is the son of Michael Weiner, known better as extreme right-wing radio talk show host Michael Savage. Michael helped formulate the drink, drawing on his long-time background as a botanist and herbalist. Wife and mother Janet Weiner handles Rock Star's finances. [QueerActivism]

Salvation Army: This “non-profit” religious organization is anti-gay and actively lobbies against pro-gay legislation in the US and abroad. The money you put in that red kettle is going to anti-gay evangelical Christian lobbyists. They believe that since they're a "church" they have the right to not hire gay people because they are sinners. Salvation Army reserves the right to discriminate in hiring, promoting, and firing gay people, and in the benefits they provide their employees. And they come right out and admit that "practicing homosexuals" are not welcome in the "church." [americablog.com]

Urban Outfitters: Richard Hayne, the Chairman of the hipsterish Urban Outfitters, is a notably right-wing Republican who generously supports GOP candidates and causes that vote for legislation against gay marriage. His company also operates stores under Free People and Anthropologie name.
NOTE: Glen Senk, the CEO of the parent company, Urban Outfitters, Inc., is an openly gay man who has been in a committed relationship for over 30 years. However, Richard Hayne is still the founder and current chairman and does indeed have a record for supporting right-wing Republicans who are against abortion and gay rights. [NYMag]

Walmart Stores Inc.: Does not offer domestic partner benefits except in locations required by law. Walmart is the largest retail seller of books but refuses to stock any GLBT titles in their stores. [HRC buyers guide]

Local businesses in my area that contributed to the “Yes on 8” proposition that took rights away from gay and lesbian couples. Many of these contributions derive from corporate bank accounts.

Some formerly anti-gay companies have seen the light and changed their ways:

Bolthouse Farms (juices, dressings and package carrots sold at upscale markets such as Whole Foods): William Bolthouse, founder and former owner, donated $100,000 to the Yes on 8. Although Mr. Bolthouse claims he is no longer connected with the company, his son-in-law is chairman of the company and it markets itself as a fourth-generation company.
UPDATE: The LA Times reports, since feeling the pressure from the gay community, Bolthouse has instated a "diversity program designed to support inclusiveness in its dealings with all stakeholders including the LGBT community." Bolthouse Farms has also extended medical benefits to same-sex partners of gay employees, according to the Californians Against Hate statement.

The Generations Network (the parent company of ancestry.com and Family Tree Maker): Initially refused to recognize same-sex families in their software. Their support desk said: “…same-gender relationships are unable to be entered in our genealogy software …because genealogy trees are intended to trace biological relationships or bloodlines. As two persons of the same gender are unable to have biological children, they cannot be entered as spouses or partners.”
UPDATE: After a threatened boycott the CEO, Tim Sullivan, announced “Our desktop software application called Family Tree Maker, which [in addition] to ancestry is one of our key businesses, is built in a way that permits this, and we’ve recognized for some time that we absolutely want the service to reflect how anyone defines spousal relationship or how anyone defines a family.” He added that they expect ancestry.com to support same-gender relationships and all family stories by the end of the first quarter of 2009. Anti-gay conservative and religious groups have been threatening major corporations for years. These groups include: American Family Association (AFA), Focus on the Family, Alliance Defense Fund, Americans for Truth, and Concerned Women for America.
They have called for boycotts of businesses and demanded that supportive companies cancel sponsorships to GLBT causes, roll-back rights and benefits to gay employees, etc. Some of the companies that have faced their wrath: Ford, McDonalds, Microsoft, Wells Fargo, Hallmark, PepsiCo.

Reverend’s Reviews: Homo Horror at the Movies
As Halloween approaches with its goblins, ghosts and ghouls, there’s also an increasing number of horror films geared to the LGBT community being released. This sub-genre in LGBT cinema and literature has been dubbed “homo horror” by some wags. I love a good scary movie but, as may be expected, separating the genuinely horrifying entries from the just plain horrible is a growing responsibility for us critics.

The first movie of note in the homo horror sub-genre was 2005’s Hellbent. Impressively produced on a shoestring budget, it mimicked the Halloween and Friday the 13th slasher series in depicting a group of gay hotties being stalked by a remorseless serial killer during the West Hollywood Halloween street carnival. The killer, clad in leather and devil horns, attacks when least expected and is seemingly unstoppable. Hellbent isn’t a great or even a particularly good film, but its success in theaters and on DVDprovided initial evidence that there is indeed a market for homo horror movies.

Gay director David DeCoteau has also discovered this. His homoerotic, direct-to-video productions including The Brotherhood and Voodoo Academy, which feature scads of young men often wearing little more than boxer briefs, have been very successful. DeCoteau’s more recent, more overtly gay adaptations of Edgar Allan Poe stories (such as The Raven) have garnered theatrical release and positive reviews. His latest bisexual thriller, Playing with Fire, was released September 19 and is playing on the here! network.

One of the best horror movies — gay, straight or otherwise — I’ve seen in recent years is Cthulhu, which recently played in Los Angeles and is now being released nationwide. Based on the works of esteemed horror-fantasy writer H.P. Lovecraft, it is everything the author’s best stories are: creepy, cool and classy. What’s more, screenwriter Grant Cogswell and director Daniel Gildark have given their thought-provoking adaptation of what is referred to as Lovecraft’s “Cthulhu Mythos” a gay twist.

When gay history professor Russ Marsh (a very good, nuanced performance by Jason Cottle) returns after a long absence to his Oregon-coast hometown for his mother’s funeral, he encounters several unexpected and potentially sinister forces. First is the apocalyptic religious cult led by his father. Next is Russ’s former crush and high school-era j.o. buddy, Mike (Scott Patrick Green). Last, but not necessarily least, is the seductive Susan (Tori Spelling) and her allegedly physically disabled husband.

These are all secondary, however, to the primary threat of a supernatural uprising that human beings have unwittingly laid the groundwork for through our abuse of the environment. Gildark and Cogswell give their film an eerily prescient doomsday aura, with global temperatures rising dramatically and the oceans receding. Russ, long an embarrassment to his father and others in the town due to his homosexuality, unexpectedly finds himself in a position of power and may just be the world’s savior.

From the sublime to the ridiculous: The Gay Bed and Breakfast of Terror is scheduled to open at a theatre near you on Halloween, and will be released on DVDin November. An assortment of ill-prepared gay men and lesbian women fail to make advance hotel reservations for the “Blue Party” in Palm Springs. Since beggars can’t be choosers, they all end up at the remote Sahara Salvation Bed & Breakfast. The inn is run by Scripture-quoting Helen (Mari Marks) and her odd daughter, Luella (Georgia Jean, who gives the only reputable performance in the film). Then there’s the whispered-about Manfred, who is billed in the movie’s press notes as “perhaps THE most terrifying creature ever created for film!” Having seen it, I certainly wouldn’t agree.

The Gay Bed and Breakfast of Terror doesn’t try to be a serious horror movie, despite the buckets of blood thrown around the set. But neither does it succeed as a satire or spoof, with most of the jokes falling to the theater or living room floor with a thud. The best part of the film is its opening credits, which are accompanied by a hilarious song, “Watch Out for the Straights!,” sung and danced in true 1960’s go-go girl-style by Juliet Wright. If you do go to see this film, don’t be late!

Writer-director Bruce LaBruce is the gay auteur behind such memorable movies as Super 8½ and Hustler White. Not one for subtlety, his latest creation is the outrageous but very good horror-comedy Otto; or, Up with Dead People. It is scheduled for US theatrical release this November, after well-received screenings at numerous film festivals including Sundance and Outfest.

Otto (portrayed by the charming Jey Crisfar), recently risen from the dead, is discovered by underground filmmaker Medea Yarn (the very funny Katharina Klewinghaus). She has long been at work on her celluloid magnum opus, a pornographic attack on the political establishment that has defeated past zombie insurrections entitled Up with Dead People. As one character says, “Medea’s underground movies put her on the map … if the underground has a map.”

Medea is taken with Otto, even though she refuses to believe he is an actual zombie, and turns her camera on him in an effort to uncover his past. In the process, she details the emergence of “a new wave of gay zombies” which the horrified populace terms “the Purple Peril.”

Otto; or, Up with Dead People, is a movie within a movie within a movie that takes the zombie horror genre in welcome new directions after the lifeless (no pun intended) Diary of the Dead, by zombie-master George A. Romero, earlier this year. It is a clever satire, a sexy gay romance and a traditionally gory horror flick all at once. There’s also a theological critique of the religious right’s response to the AIDS crisis thrown in. LaBruce cleverly employs what could be termed “zombie vision” and “zombie audio” in what is, to my knowledge, the first cinematic attempt to gain a zombie’s literal point of view.

Something tells me the rise of Otto, as well as homo horror movies in general, is just beginning.

Tim is one of those directors that really knows what horror movies are about and is reinventing a genre at those times only action movies are becoming blockbusters. Why Horror Movies?
When I was 5 years old, I saw the original DRACULA with Bela Lugosi and was both frightened and seduced. Let’s face it, evil can be very sexy. A Pandora’s Box most would have you leave unopened. Well , I opened it, and I saw the effect it had on others. The scarier the better. The bloodier even more so. Gore in horror became to me the equivalent of a magician sawing a woman in half, and I decided I wanted to perform that kind of magic; get a rise out of people, shake them out of complacency. I think the best horror films are metaphors for good and evil. Putting it bluntly, I truly believe that it often takes Satan fucking you in the ass before you get down on your knees and give God a blow job. I want to tell those kind of stories.

Where do you come from (physically and emotionally)?
I’m a Jersey boy who spent his formative college years going to New York University film school during the birth of the MTV generation. I wrote the music news for MTV while also being a journalist for the horror magazine FANGORIA. Rock and Roll has been in my blood forever. It’s the rebel in me. I’ve always been a “double” outsider. First off, I always preferred the guy next door to the girl next door, and secondly, I always preferred making movies to scoring touchdowns on the football field. I’ve made it my mission to succeed in passions others couldn’t understand or deemed reprehensible.

Tell us more about DRIFTWOOD and when will it be released internationally?
If my first film, 2001 MANIACS, is my rock and roll anthem, then DRIFTWOOD is my power ballad. Once I proved I could get beautiful people naked (both girls and boys), cover them in blood and make audiences both laugh and squirm, I decided it was time to get a little personal. I was very upset by the American trend of so called “Attitude Adjustment Camps”, these horrific juvenile detention centers where parents are encouraged to send their kids if they deem them “troublesome”. Kids are sent to these places simply because they might be gay, or into horror movies, or smoke a little weed . Basic teenage stuff. But once there, their individuality and identity is beaten out of them. Had I a different mother, one who didn’t support me, I could easily have ended up in a place like that. So it became important to me to tell a story about such a place, about a kid who is sent to one of these camps that just happens to be haunted by the ghost of a boy who was murdered there for being gay. I got an amazing young cast, led by Ricky Ullman of Disney’s PHIL OF THE FUTURE as well as Talan Torriero from MTV’S LAGUNA BEACH. Newcomer Connor Ross plays Jonathan, the kid who was murdered, and he truly is amazing. DRIFTWOOD came out in America this year and was nominated for Best Horror Film by The Academy of Sci-Fi, Horror and Fantasy. It was very validating, as it proved to me that audiences were willing to accept a more subtle type of horror film from me. I can’t wait to see what International audiences make of it.Anchor Bay is releasing it in the UK and Dublin in January. It comes out this week in Germany from Tiberius.

What is the movie are you working on right now?
Next up is the sequel to 2001 MANIACS called BEVERLY HELLBILLYS. More blood, more butts and more laffs! After that, it’s back to DRIFTWOOD territory with BROTHERS OF THE BLOOD, a supernatural romance depicting the love triangle between an older male vampire, a younger male vampire and the female mortal that comes between them. It will be very gothic, very Shakespearean, very bloody, and yes, extremely sensual. I’m not gonna pull any punches here. We’re truly gonna push the envelope. It will be accompanied by a coffee table book of erotic vampire photographs for which I already shot a test shoot with Victor Frolov, a young Canadian actor born in Russia who will also be in HELLBILLYS. I think these pics definitely give a taste of what to expect.

What is your favorite city to visit?
Last year I went to Dublin to premiere DRIFTWOOD and fell madly in love. I truly felt at home. Just loved the vibe, loved the people. There is a true sense of the “working class” ethic yet combined with a literacy and poetic nature not often found in America. I loved it so much, I rewrote the setting of BROTHERS OF THE BLOOD to now take place there!

What are you doing for Halloween this year?
I will be doing touring Europe to promote DRIFTWOOD beginning with the UK premiere at the GoreZone Film Festival, this coming Sunday the 19th at 10 AM. Anybody interested should check out this link. Where do you see your self 5 years from now?
In a position to make the films I want to make without having to beg, borrow or steal to do so thanks to what hopefully will be the mega success of BROTHERS OF THE BLOOD! The independent world of filmmaking is a tough one, but there is no plan B for me. I’m in it for the long haul. And I’m gonna do it my way.

Tim Sullivan began his career as a teenager pumping fake blood for the 80s cult horror flick Return of the Aliens: The Deadly Spawn (1983). This brought him to New York University where he studied film and wrote the music news for MTV. Upon graduation, Tim served in various capacities on 'Three Men And A Baby', 'Cocktail', 'Coming To America' and 'Godfather III' before co-producing the independent hits 'If Looks Could Kill' and 'America Exposed'.

In 1990, Tim moved to LA where he worked in development at New Line Cinema for five years. It was there that he first encountered Detroit Rock City (1999), which he eventually co-produced, finding himself yet again pumping fake blood- though this time for Gene Simmons of the rock group KISS. Having formed New Rebellion Entertainment, Tim made his directorial debut with the Lions Gate horror-comedy, 2001 Maniacs (2005), followed by the hip hop terror anthology, Hood of Horror (2006).

With these admittedly over-the-top, decidedly non-PC "Splatsticks" under his belt, for his next project, Driftwood (2006), the filmmaker decided to tackle another type of horror: the post-Columbine American trend of privately owned and operated "Attitude Adjustment Camps" for youths deemed troubled and problematic by their parents. A complete flip in vibe from previous efforts, "Driftwood" is a character driven, supernatural teen thriller starring Ricky Ullman and Talan Torriero that has been described as "Stand By Me" meets "Ghost Story". It's Sullivan's way of expressing his driving philosophy that no one should be forced to be what they are not, for if and when that does occur, the real nightmares truly do take shape. Next up, a double dose of 2001 Maniacs; first the graphic novel from Avatar Press followed by 2001 Maniacs: Beverly Hellbillys (2008), it's much anticipated and demanded sequel. After that, Sullivan will return to more subtle and elegant horror with Brothers of the Blood (2008), a haunting vampire romance starring Thomas Dekker (The Sara Connor Chronicles).

Spinti dalle mode consumistiche americane anche da noi nel Belpaese è arrivato quello che alcuni definiscono come la notte in cui il mondo dei vivi e il mondo dei morti si mettono in stretto contatto e vengono celebrate le anime dei defunti cari. Halloween, la notte delle streghe e del mistero è di nuovo arrivata e se fino ad una decina di anni fa c'era solo la pratica di salutare i propri cari con una visita cimiteriale, oggi come minimo ci si imbatte in feste al limite del carnevalesco con abiti dal puro stile horror. Il mercato gay, fiorente di iniziative come sempre, non ha perso tempo e sfrutta a dovere quest anuova celebrazione inventando party a tema in cui sfoggiare i propri vestiti da strega e inventarsi nuovi, spesso patetici, travestimenti, impersonando per esempio la funerea Amy Winehouse di turno con tanto di acconciatura in stile moglie di Frankenstein. Non da meno i party più piccanti in cui basta un boxer arancione e un pò di foglioline disegnate sull'addome per diventare una zucca di Halloween tutta scolpire per tirar fuori un sorrisino sdentato dal colorato ortaggio. Voi come impegnerete la serata? Party trasgressivo, riunione tra amici per una sana maratona di film horror oppure andrete a bussare porta a porta urlando "dolcetto o scherzetto?"? Ho capito ve ne starete in panciolle a casa, dopotutto i gay sono più tradizionalisti di quanto si possa credere :)

Hola amigos, ahora si que si... se acaban definitivamente las vacaciones y toca la vuelta al cole, como en los odiosos y cursis anuncios de El Corte Inglés, pero la verdad que no me quejo, las vacas han estado muy bien y ya hasta tengo ganas de ver a mis compis y cotillear sobre las novedades... jajaja!

Y continuando con el post sobre mi viaje a Canarias, hoy me propongo hablar de la isla de Gran Canaria (en general); de sobra se que muchos ya la conocéis y es llover sobre mojado, pero valga este post para aquellos que nunca habéis estado y lo tenéis como futuro destino vacacional, pues aquí queda mi testimonio. Es más que conocido el ambientillo gay de Maspalomas, aunque a mi personalmente me puede llegar a rallar, como todo en la vida (por ejemplo Chueca), porque los kilómetros de playas y dunas están muy bien, pero si nos ceñimos a lo que es la playa gay, pues no deja de ser unos metros cuadrados donde nos concentramos las plumas del lugar. Y claro todos los días ves las mismas caras en la playa y luego también en el Yumbo por la noche (centro de ocio donde están concentrados casi todos los bares, discos y saunas gays), pues que queréis que os diga, es como ir de romería... siempre lo mismo!.

La playa gay, como tal (porque luego hay gente como yo que nos dispersamos por cualquier otro punto solitario de la kilométrica playa más allá del nº 7), se encuentra en el kiosko nº 7 (o también conocido como chiringay), para los más despistados tiene la banderita gay encima (veáse foto superior), es el punto de encuentro durante el día; está bien para conocer gente, charlar... (por cierto, Eric kisses from Madrid and nice to meet you, I enjoyed very much with our conversation on the beach!, Eric es un chico muy majo suizo que conocí una mañana y con el que estuve charlando) o lo que surja... si os va la marcha insitu o el aquí te pillo aquí te follo... basta adentraros por las dunas, en la zona de matorrales, es la zona de cruising a lo bestia, es lo que más me dejó flipao de esta zona sinceramente... el folleteo que hay dunas adentro!... claro luego ves al típico que viene sudoroso, rojo y extasiado arrastrándose hasta el agua... como si acabara de cruzar el Sinaí... jajaja!, con el calor que hace...

Pero bueno, siempre mola ver ambientillo en la playa, aunque lo dicho yo me suelo ir un poco más allá, que además para hacer nudismo no hay tanta aglomeración (y mirón), aunque también se puede hacer aquí sin problemas, aunque la gente es más de lucir modelito playero... que es lo más "in". Y luego por la noche, pues si queréis marcha, la tenéis asegurada en el Yumbo, bares o discos para tomarse la primera, la segunda o las que sean, locales de lo más light a lo más heavy con sus cuartos oscuros, saunas, etc... muy completitos... aunque yo siempre he dicho que a mi no me va! (cada uno es libre y yo con eso soy muy respetuoso!). A mi lo que me gusta mucho, volviendo al tema playa, es bañarme, caminar, escurrirme, bañarme, caminar ..., en este caso hasta llegar a la playa del Inglés, que son como 6 km aproximadamente.

Playa de Amadores (Puerto Rico, GC)

Ya que estamos en el sur, cerca de Maspalomas, hacia el oeste, se encuentra Puerto Rico, con una playa tipo caribe (de hecho trajeron la arena de allí), conocida como playa de Amadores, es como una piscina, porque la tienen casi cerrada al mar. Lo que está muy chulo, si os gustan los fondos cristalinos y colores turquesa, entre las dos playas que hay (por cierto, la otra es horrorosa de piedras), por el paseo, se desciende por una escalera de caracol a las rocas, donde los más atrevidos nos bañamos y podemos hacer snorkel, siempre que el mar esté tranquilillo.

Y si continuamos carretera hasta el oeste, con unas curvas y acantilados bastante respetables, llegamos a Puerto Mogán, también conocido como la pequeña Venecia de Gran Canaria, por sus canales, callecitas y rincones pintorescos al lado del puerto; también tiene una playita muy tranquila en cuanto a oleaje se refiere.

Si váis con coche propio, hay algunas playas chulas entre Puerto Rico y Puerto de Mogán, como la del Cura, por ejemplo, pero eso ya es secundario. Desde Puerto de Mogán se puede subir a Mogán pueblo, aunque esta parte nunca la he hecho.

Otra excursión obligada, más si os va el rollo montaña (aunque no os asustéis los coches llegan hasta allí mismo), es subir al punto más alto de la isla, el Pico de las Nieves, a unos 2000 m de altura, muy chulas las vistas, como la panorámica superior, en la que se ve el Roque Nublo (el segundo punto más alto y símbolo de la isla), así como divisar Tenerife y el Teide, según las nubes y su altura, en este caso si os fijáis se ve, al fondo, la base pero no el Teide y en la siguiente foto, se ve a simple vista Maspalomas, pues este pico ejerce de vértice geodésico de toda la isla.

De ahí, nos desplazamos en coche al Roque Nublo, para coronarlo hay que hacer una senda de unos 30 minutos, y también tiene unas vistas espectaculares, como podéis ver en la siguiente panorámica. En el descenso noroeste, hay pueblitos chulos donde descansar y tomarse algo, como Tejeda o Artenara. Si el camino que tomáis es noreste son de visita recomendable, pueblos como Teror o San Mateo (típico por su bienmesabe casero, os lo recomiendo, si sois golosones).

Ya en la costa norte, desde Las Palmas, podéis visitar Arucas y su pintoresca iglesia en piedra volcánica; otros como Guía y Gáldar, sinceramente me parecieron visitas prescindibles, sin embargo me gustó bastante Agaete y Puerto de las Nieves, con un ambiente de pueblito pesquero con encanto, donde se come muy bien y donde hasta el 2005 se encontraba otro símbolo de Gran Canaria, el famoso Dedo de Dios, que se lo llevo una tormenta tropical, independientemente, el paisaje y el recortado conocido como "Cola de dragón" está muy bonito.

Eso sí, las playas son de piedra gorda volcánica y suele hacer bastante viento. Desde aquí, parten los barcos express a Tenerife, haciendo el trayecto en algo más de una hora, como el que pillé en la foto.

Y como me está quedando un post muy largo, voy acabando; aunque por último quiero recomendar, la visita al Jardín Canario (jardín botánico de Gran Canaria), se encuentra muy cerquita de Las Palmas por la carretera que va a Santa Brígida.

Muy extenso, organizado por zonas, el palmeral, los dragos, el pinar, el bosque de laurisilva, el jardín de cactus, los estanques... Vamos que si eres de los que te gustan las plantitas... como a mí, puedes tardar tranquilamente en recorrerlo unas 5 horas. Con entrada y parking gratuitos.

Granted, I haven’t had much luck in the relationship department but when I have been dating or seeing someone, even back when it was girls, it seems to have been in the summer months. Almost like holiday flings.

As a natural born cuddler, it’s a strange contradiction that on the occasions where I’ve had someone there to cuddle all night, it’s been so warm that touching in anyway is almosts unbearable.

Why is it that I end up seeing people in summer? I know for one I feel sexier in summer. I’ve never been one to feel outrageously confident but when I’ve been lying in the sun, my skin is golden, my hair is a bit blonder, everyone is wearing less or hopefully nothing at all, it’s only natural that I feel more attractive. With that comes confidence and perhaps others pick up on that? There is something to be said for rampant summer sex where you end up all sweaty and breathless and then there’s the late night skinnydips at the beach.

Three days into Spring and I can’t wait to hit the beach. Any single Sydney boys wanna come down, hang out nude and say hi? ;)
